Keys to Unlocking Depression
Michael Yapko
Keys to Unlocking Depression: An Internationally Known Depression Expert Tells You What You Need to Know to Overcome Depression
Dr. Michael Yapko, gives us the essential information to manage and overcome depression. It is intended to help provide a life raft of clarity to those who are treading water in the sea of confusion about depression. In this easy to read format of 50 statements, Dr. Yapko sums up the science and clinical judgment he has shared with his patients and professional colleagues for over 30 years. Depression is greatly influenced by your own perspective.
No one overcomes depression by declaring himself or herself a victim, so take the valuable keys that Dr. Yapko provides in this book and unlock your depression.
Breaking the Patterns of Depression -Michael Yapko
In Breaking the Patterns of Depression, he presents skills that enable listeners to understand and ultimately avert depression's recurring cycles.
Yapko uses a conversational, anecdotal tone that encourages listeners to take an active approach to helping themselves. Special sections entitled "Learn by Doing" and "Shifting Perspectives" help develop the skills necessary to manage difficult experiences.
More realistic and helpful than other depression-management books on the market, Breaking the Patterns of Depression defines what causes depression and, best of all, clarifies what can be done about it. With this knowledge in hand, listeners can control their depression, rather than having depression control them.

Poems - What thoughts do you hear when you read this to yourself?
A Morning Offering
by John O'Donohue
I bless the night that nourished my heart
To set the ghosts of longing free
Into the flow and figure of dream
That went to harvest from the dark
Bread for the hunger no one sees.
All that is eternal in me
Welcome the wonder of this day,
The field of brightness it creates
Offering time for each thing
To arise and illuminate.
I place on the altar of dawn:
The quiet loyalty of breath,
The tent of thought where I shelter,
Wave of desire I am shore to
And all beauty drawn to the eye.
May my mind come alive today
To the invisible geography
That invites me to new frontiers,
To break the dead shell of yesterdays,
To risk being disturbed and changed.
May I have the courage today
To live the life that I would love,
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more.

Poems - What thoughts do you hear when you read this to yourself?
Help!
I walked through the wildwood, and what did I see....
But a unicorn with his horn stuck in a tree, cryin’,
"Someone please help me before it‘s too late.”
I hollered, “I’ll free you.”
He hollered back,
“Wait--How much will it hurt? How long will it take?
Are you sure that my horn will not scratch, bend, or break?
How hard will you pull?
How much must I pay?
Must you do it right now or is Wednesday okay?
Have you done this before? Do you have the right tools?
Have you graduated from horn-savin’ school?
Will I owe you a favor? And what will it be?
Do you promise that you will not damage the tree?
Should I close my eyes? Should I sit down or stand?
Do you have insurance? Have you washed your hands?
And after you free me--tell me what then?
Can you guarantee I won’t get stuck again?
Tell me when. Tell me how.
Tell me why. Tell me where….”
I guess that why he’s still sittin’ there.
