SydneyHypno welcomes referrals where psychological, behavioural or mind–body factors may be contributing to a patient's presentation.

When to consider a referral
Consider a referral where a patient may benefit from additional strategies for coping, self-regulation, symptom management or behavioural change alongside their existing healthcare.
-
Adjunctive support alongside medical or psychological treatment
-
Non-pharmacological strategies for appropriately assessed symptoms
-
Support for persistent conditions with contributing psychological or behavioural factors
-
A patient's interest in clinical hypnotherapy, with realistic treatment expectations
Clinical hypnotherapy complements appropriate medical, psychological and psychiatric care. It does not replace diagnosis, investigation or treatment.
Common areas for referral
Mental wellbeing
Stress, anxiety, worry, panic symptoms, fears and phobias, low mood and adjustment to challenging circumstances.
Pain & symptom management
Adjunctive support for persistent pain, fibromyalgia, migraine, tension headache and pain-related anxiety, following medical assessment.
Sleep
Sleep difficulties and unhelpful patterns associated with stress or anxiety. Medical causes should be investigated where indicated.
Gut-directed hypnotherapy
Medically assessed IBS and functional gastrointestinal symptoms where gut–brain interaction may be relevant.
Behavioural change
Smoking cessation, weight-management behaviours, habit change, nail biting, bruxism-related patterns and alcohol reduction.
Stress-related symptoms
Support for coping with physical symptoms affected by stress, physiological arousal and symptom-related fear.
Suitability is assessed individually. Suspected eating disorders, substance dependence or significant mental health conditions require appropriate specialist assessment and coordinated care.
How to refer a patient
Consider suitability
Review the presenting concern, history, current treatment, medications, goals and patient preferences. Contact Kerry if you would like to discuss suitability.
Discuss the referral
Explain the adjunctive role of hypnotherapy and obtain the patient's consent to share relevant information.
Send the referral
Use the GP & Medical Specialist Referral Form ↗ or contact kerry@sydneyhypno.com.au to arrange a suitable way to send your practice's referral documentation.
Coordinate ongoing care
With the patient's consent, clinically relevant communication can support progress reviews and the broader treatment plan.
Important considerations
Contact SydneyHypno before referral where a patient has acute or severe psychiatric symptoms, psychosis, significant cognitive impairment or severe dissociative symptoms.
Acute suicidality, immediate risk of harm or urgent medical concerns require appropriate emergency or specialist assessment.
Complex presentations may require specialist coordination and treatment within an appropriately qualified multidisciplinary team.
Principles of care
-
Respect for existing healthcare and treatment
-
Informed consent and realistic expectations
-
Communication authorised by the patient
-
Practice within professional scope
-
Referral for further assessment when indicated
-
Ongoing review of safety and suitability
